Ludhiana, August 5: The disparity in the grant of minimum wages between four districts including Ludhiana and other districts in the state has finally been removed after the gazette notification of July 28, 2011.
This was revealed in an answer to Ludhiana MP and the National Spokesperson of the Indian National Congress Manish Tewari in reply to a question on the issue in the parliament by the Minister of State Rural Development today.
Later giving details, Tewari, in a statement from Delhi and released by his office here today said, four districts in Punjab, including Ludhiana were not notified for minimum wage of Rs 153 and here in these four districts the minimum wages were Rs 123 only thus putting the daily wage earners at a disadvantage.
He said, now the disparity stand removed and all the districts across the state will have uniform minimum wage of Rs 153. He said, the matter was taken up at the relevant quarters and the issue was settled for uniform minimum wages across the state.
Tewari said, while the minimum wages may vary from state to state but these cannot vary within the state in accordance to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
